ResearchThe Regional Forum recognises the importance of research on the voluntary and community sector. We work to influence policy and inform debate about the sector at all levels. So along with commissioning our own research, the Forum also works closely with recognised leaders in research into the sector to ensure it reflects and represents the unique nature of our region.
KnowledgeBank
To bring all this research together in one, the Regional Forum created and maintains its own online research database KnowledgeBank. With continued funding from the Big Lottery Fund we are developing and expanding KnowledgeBank and encourage outside organisations to contribute and share their work with the region.
KnowledgeBank contains a range of research conducted by, on behalf of, or representing primarily the voluntary and community sector in Yorkshire and the Humber and is simple to use. You can search and download free any material on the database
KnowledgeBank can be found at:

Northern Rock Foundation – Third Sector Trends Survey
National research on the scale of the third sector has seen considerable development over the last decade, but good local third sector evidence which can be linked into other local data and indicators of need is lacking.
A major challenge is obtaining reliable estimates for the scale, composition and contribution of the non-registered small local community groups.
In 2007, the Trustees of Northern Rock Foundation decided to put work to address the sector’s weak evidence base at the forefront of their expanded policy and research programme in the North East and Cumbria. In addition to this, a Yorkshire and Humber element has now begun, extending the survey to our region.
