 | In July this year the Regional Forum commissioned the new economics foundation to produce a think piece on different but complementary ways of looking at economic growth. We did this because we felt that we needed to support our belief that the traditional view of producing economic growth for its own sake was no longer appropriate for growing a healthy society in the twenty first century.
"Living Better, using Less" was produced in time for our "Making Connections" conference held on 13th October 2009. We felt that discussions about a new Integrated Regional Strategy needed to be underpinned by a debate about what sustainable development and growth could mean.
The paper is designed to stimulate thinking and discussion, and we intend to look for opportunities to facilitate this in the coming months.

As well as giving a breakdown of the type of work organisations do the survey also asked if the organisations had experienced any changes in the demand for their services and in terms of size and finance. The results show that a significant number of the respondents had experienced a growth in the demand for services but that rate of growth was not matched in rises in staff or volunteers.
Many organisations expected to grow in the next financial year although at the time of the survey around 15% of those who took part were still unsure about what was going to happen to their organisation.
