policy

The voluntary and community sector (VCS) delivers successful learning and skills projects which respond to policy agendas.

At a National Level
Projects can be linked to:

  • the Learning and Skills Council Agenda for Change and the Working Together strategy
  • Regeneration and neighbourhood renewal through Local Area Agreements
  • Children and young people through Every Child Matters
  • The rehabilitation and integration of offenders through NOMS (the National Offender Management Scheme)
  • The ESF (European Social Fund) programme
  • The Home ChangeUp programme managed by Capacitybuilders
  • The Health and Social Care agenda
  • Older people’s agenda
  • The active citizenship agenda
  • Sustainable communities agenda through Every Action Counts and Together We Can.

At a Regional Level
Developing people's knowledge and skills and getting them into work are key targets of the Regional Economic Strategy and the forthcoming European Social Fund programme. The VCS plays a significant role in achieving these targets by delivering training projects in some of the region's most disadvantaged communities.

To promote its valuable contribution to regional economic development, the VCS is engaging with key policy drivers such as the Regional Skills Partnership Board and by developing these relationships, gives the sector a chance to champion what it needs to continue to deliver its services.
