So What? Community Engagement Research

Debating the messages at a 'So What?' Seminar

Community Engagement Research in Yorkshire and Humber

Much research is being carried out into what represents effective community engagement and many people are actively involved in work involving local communities. So, how can we better make links between the research messages and practical community engagement activities?

This project, co-ordinated by the Regional Forum, drew together, and shared the key messages coming through community engagement research. With key messages and themes identified, practitioners, policymakers and academics got together to debate the results. Discussion focused on how community engagement approaches can improve through incorporating research recommendations into practical community engagement programmes.

The project consisted of 4 main strands:

  • Bi-annual research symposia – identifying and analysing the research themes.
  • Research digests – containing research, opinions and links.
  • So What? Seminars – debating the key messages identified through the research and the barriers to putting ideas into practice.
  • Dissemination of the research lessons.

Two sets of research symposium and So What? seminar have now taken place and you can download the two research digests below.

    Research Digest 1 - January 2006
    Research Digest 2 - April 2006
